Jeff Schaefer
Director of Player Development, Head Baseball Instructor
Jeff grew up in Patchogue, NY. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland where he was a First Team All ACC 2nd Baseman and Honorable Mention All-American. Jeff signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 1981 which was the beginning of a 14 year professional career. He is the only player in Charlotte baseball history to win championships with the Charlotte O's and the Charlotte Knights. He broke in to the Major Leagues with the Chicago White Sox in 1989. He spent 1990-92 with the Seattle Mariners and 1994 with the Oakland A's. CBC is Jeff's vision and baseball is his passion.

Mike Gardiner

Mike grew up in Canada, where he played both hockey and baseball.  He came to the United States in 1983 when he was recruited by Indiana State University.  Mike was a pitcher at ISU and led the team to its first and only College World Series.  He still holds the all-time record for career wins and has been inducted into the Indiana State University Hall of Fame.  Mike also played for Team Canada and went to the 1984 Olympics, where he was the winning pitcher against the eventual gold medal Japanese team.  After college, Mike was drafted by the Seattle Mariners.  He played professionally for 12 years, over 4 of those years in the major leagues, with the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, Montreal Expos, and Detroit Tigers.

Jake Robbins

Jake is a Charlotte native graduating from Myers Park High School where he was a two sport All State athlete.  During his senior year of High School he signed a letter of Intent to attend North Carolina State University on a baseball scholarship.  Before attending NCSU Jake decided to sign a contract with the New York Yankees after being drafted that summer in the 11th round.  He spent 7 years with the Yankees before becoming a free agent and moving on to achieve his goal of pitching in the big leagues with the Cleveland Indians in 2004.  Jake just finished his 14th professional season playing with the Chicago Whitesox AAA affiliate Charlotte Knights. 

Michael Shildt

Mike is entering his 4th season as area scouting supervisor and minor league instructor with the St. Louis Cardinals. Prior to the Cardinals, Mike, as the head coach at West Charlotte HS, was named the Southwestern 4A coach of the year and the Charlotte Observer coach of the year. As an assistant coach at UNC Charlotte he helped lead the 49ers in 1998 to school records in wins and batting average that still exist.  Shildt opened and operated On Deck Baseball Academy from 2000-2003 helping over 50 players received Division 1 scholarships.  Mike is a Charlotte native having played at and graduated from Olympic High School and UNC Asheville.

Kelvin Torve

Instructor
A Graduate of Oral Roberts University, and a second round draft pick by San Francisco in 1981, Kelvin Torve was traded to the Baltimore Orioles organization and played for the Charlotte O's. He made his major league debut in 1988 with the Minnesota Twins, and returned to the big leagues in 1990-91 with the New York Mets. Kelvin was given #24 by accident in 1991. He was the first Met ever to wear the number since Willie Mays.

Shane Dove

Shane was a three year starter at Fort Mill High School as a lefthanded pitcher. After graduating in 2002 from Fort Mill High School Shane attended Spartanburg Methodist Junior College. After one year at SMJC Shane was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Shane pitched in the Diamondbacks organization for 5 seasons.

Kevin Scott

Instructor
Kevin Scott played college baseball for the Washington State University. Drafted by the Houston Astros in 1986 as a catcher, Kevin played catcher, first base, outfield and third base in the 6 years he was in the Astros organization. In 1993 Kevin went down under and played for the Pepsi Austrailian Baseball Association in Melbourne, Austrailia where he was a first team all-star. After returning to the states and finishing his time with the Astros organization he signed with The Navarro Capitals of the Italian Baseball Association in 1995. Kevin returned to the states in 1996 and signed with the Florida Marlins where an injury ended his 10 year career.

Tim Dobos

Instructor
Tim Dobos was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and played his collegiate baseball at the University of Akron where he was a four-year starter. During that time period, he was able to set single season records for strike outs and innings pitched. He was selected All Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher in 1987. He still currently ranks second in school history for strike outs, innings pitched and single season wins, as well as third in all-time career wins with 21. Tim is heavily involved in youth baseball in the Charlotte area. He is on the Board of Directors at Weddington Little League where he is the Coach Development Director. He has also coached local all-star teams, as well as AAU and USSSA teams. In 2006, he coached the 8U AAU State Championship team as well as the National runner up team. Tim resides in Weddington, NC, with his wife Marci and their four children; Kevin, Kelly, Katie, and Kyle. 

Dusty Wathan

Dusty grew up in Kansas City, Missouri where his father, John Wathan played for and managed the Kansas City Royals.  He signed his first professional contract in ‘94 with the Seattle Mariners as a catcher and spent 7 years with them.  He later played with the Marlins, Padres, Brewers, and reached the big leagues in 2002 with the Kansas City Royals. He played three years with the Cleveland Indians and finished his playing career this year with the Phillies organization. After 14 years of playing professional baseball, he is currently a manager in the minor leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies.  Dusty now makes his home in Charlotte.

Patrick Whitted

An avid baseball fan and student of the game, Patrick has played competitively since the end of his college career.  Currently, he is playing in the Charlotte Adult Baseball League (CABL) and the Charlotte National Adult Baseball Association (NABA).  Below is a listing of his semi-pro/amateur championships:

Raul Chardon

Pro Instructor

Raul was signed by current General Manager of the NY Mets, Omar Minaya, in 1998 as a 16 year old. Raul's career began as shortstop, and he finished his career as a catcher. A shoulder injury ended a promising career at the age of 19, but Raul has never lost his passion for the game and has been a pro instructor since 2004.


Brandon Williams

Instructor
Brandon graduated from Fort Mill High School where he is being call the greatest diamond in the rough in years.  After pitching only 7 innings of High School baseball Brandon was seen and signed by USC-Upstate.  He went on to help USC-Upstate triple their win total from 12 wins the year before he signed to having over 30 wins the three years he was there.  After achieving great success in college, Brandon’s dream of becoming a professional baseball player became true.  He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 29th round and is currently playing in their minor league system. 

Rachel Dorr

Rachel grew up in Newark, New York, just outside of Rochester.  Rachel's reputation as one of the top pitchers to come out of New York State started in eighth grade.  As a five year varsity letter winner in softball at Newark High School Rachel earned All Finger Lakes East honors all five years, and was also named the Player of the Year for the Finger Lakes East as well as Section V her Senior year.  In addition to these honors she earned the New York State Sportsmanship Award for Softball in 2001, and was First Team All New York State from 1999-2001, and was an Honorable Mention in 1998.  She also set the record for strikeouts in a single season her senior year.  Rachel played college ball at Division I Colgate University and set a new record for strikeouts in a season by a freshman pitcher.  Currently, Rachel is in her second year as the head coach at Olympic High School in Charlotte, where she was an assistant coach for one year and teaches Chemistry and Advanced Placement Chemistry.  Rachel is passionate about helping young pitchers develop and refine their techniques in the hope that she can help them reach their goals.

Keith Glauber

Keith grew up playing baseball in New Jersey. After graduating from Montclair State University, he was selected in the 42nd round of the 1994 June Draft. As a reliever for most of his 9 year career, he realized his dream in 1998 while spending that year with the Cincinnati Reds. This was just one year removed from his first shoulder surgery. He later made it back to the big leagues in 2000, before having his second and final shoulder surgery in 2001. Keith retired in 2002 and has been living in Charlotte with his wife Mary and 3 boys Jake, Andrew, and Caden since 2000. Keith will also coach in South Charlotte Cougars organization
